Top Local Breweries in Canmore For More Good Times During Your Mountain Vacation

Come for the mountains, stay for the breweries in Canmore. While COVID-19 continues to change the way we work and travel, it has also allowed us to get creative with our staycation itineraries.

Visiting the local breweries in Canmore is a safe and fun way to complement your summer stay in 2021. And it’s not just about the beer – Canmore breweries are great places to grab lunch after a hike or take in gorgeous mountain vistas on a sunny patio.

We caught up with Jasmine at Spring Creek Vacations to get her local insight into the brewery scene in Canmore. She has lots of tips for where to fill a growler and or bring your dog along.

Know before you go: get up to date information about Alberta’s COVID-19 restrictions on restaurants, pubs, lounges & cafes so you can make the most of your visit to Canmore’s breweries.
Start planning your Canmore stay with a tour of the local breweries – and cheers!

The Grizzly Paw Pub & Brewing Company

This is an ideal après go-to for all outdoor activities in Canmore. Patios, pub food, and refreshing craft beer – what more could you need?
“They have two locations; one by The Shops of Canmore, and another on Main Street,” says Jasmine. The Shops location is where the magic happens (the brewing site), and also hosts Tank 310, a spectacular restaurant featuring forno-fired pizzas you can eat on the patio near the fire pit. This is also a great place to purchase brewery merch to take home, like plaid shirts  and baseball caps

Bring your camera, because the panoramic views from the third-floor patio at Tank 310 provide a scenic overview of the Three Sisters, Mount Rundle, and Ha Ling Peak.

The Main Street location is right in the thick of the Canmore downtown action, a two-story restaurant with great views, a patio, and a fire pit for gathering on chillier nights. This location is family-friendly with tons of delicious options for lunch and dinner.
And for non-alcoholic options, check out the Grizzly Paw range of small-batch sodas, made with cane sugar and mountain-fed water.

Sheepdog Brewing

Pet owners rejoice: Sheepdog Brewing, located in the industrial area of Canmore (and just an eight-minute walk from the Elk Run Dog Off Leash Park), is open to dogs on their taproom main floor on Fridays and Saturdays.

“You can buy growlers to get your beer to go,” says Jasmine, noting how it’s also a great place for a tour of a small-batch, craft brewery or to book a special event (however, these two activities are on pause until after COVID-19 restrictions are removed).

There are fun pub snack options, like warm pretzels and stromboli, but Sheepdog Brewing also encourages customers to order in food from other establishments as well; you can see how easy it is to spend an entire afternoon eating and drinking at Sheepdog!
